**ATTENTION AP LANG/ENG 1102: HW DUE BY CLASS TUES. 3/16

Over the long weekend, please COMPLETE ALL OF THE FOLLOWING:

1) Carefully read Arthur Miller's "Why I Wrote The Crucible" [both the INTRODUCTION and the ESSAY]
  • given to you in class/paper copy Thurs. 3/11 and linked above as well as on the Classroom
  • REMINDER: as shown to you in class today, Miller's essay is a foundational part of your ENG. 1102 MIDTERM PART 1 WRITTEN RESPONSE you'll be completing in class TUES. 3/16, so read carefully and thoughtfully!
  • you'll be able to use Miller's essay to answer the written response question for your MIDTERM PART 1 TUES. 3/16, so be sure to bring it as well as your copy of The Crucible
  • Note that this essay will also be helpful for your MIDTERM PART 3 in CLASS THURS. 3/18, but more review on that next week...

2) AND FINALLY...use the POLITICAL CARTOON ANALYSIS SHEET given to you in class THURS. 3/11 (*and a linked pdf on the Classroom) to complete the following GRADED AP/1102 PROJECT/assignment:

  • A QUICK NOTE: as we finished up with Miller's The Crucible, remember that we explored the themes in Miller's play through the context of modern/ historical implications of hysteria, panic, call-out culture, and, for this connection especially, THE RED SCARE panic that hit the US in the mid to early 20th century
**************

  • Keep above and the play we just completed in mind, and VIEW THE FOLLOWING TWO SHORT VIDEOS (*also linked on the Classroom):
Short History of The Red Scare (PRE-1950s CONTEXT)

  • I'm also linking the following EXCELLENT, HELPFUL TedEd we watch in class Thursday:
TedED "What is McCarthyism? (And How Did It Happen?)"

--NEXT, use your preferred search engine to CHOOSE A POLITICAL CARTOON WITH A HISTORICAL CONTEXT, TIME FRAME, AND THEME RELATED TO THE FOLLOWING (*key words for your search, for example):
    • Red Scare political cartoon (pre-WWI or 1950s)
    • McCarthyism political cartoon
    • **Add "US" or "United States" to your search key words if you want even further results

--FINALLY, USE YOUR CHOSEN RED SCARE/McCARTHYISM POLITICAL CARTOON to THOUGHTFULLY AND THOROUGHLY COMPLETE THE POLITICAL CARTOON ANALYSIS SHEET linked on the Classroom/given to you in class
  • have a HARD COPY (printed or written out) of your ANALYSIS SHEET to give me Tues. 3/16 (*I can print, but it MUST BE AHEAD OF TIME!!!)
  • ALSO DON'T FORGET BY CLASS TUES. 3/16: PRINT OUT or send me via email/text your CHOSEN POLITICAL CARTOON so I can have CONTEXT for what you're analyzing

**IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER:

  • YOUR CARTOON AND ANALYSIS WILL ALSO BE TIED TO YOUR ENG 1102 MIDTERM PART 2; more info in class TBA...
