      **********************
FYI, 4th: NEXT WK/LOOKING AHEAD... WE'LL BE MEETING IN A HANGOUT FOR A READING CHECK AGAIN (you'll do on paper WITH ME!!) DURING THE HANGOUT, I'LL LOOK AT/HAVE YOU SHARE SOME OF YOUR POST-ITS FOR THE ROAD; HERE ARE SOME HUGE, HELPFUL RDG./PLOT/THEME/SYMBOLIC POINTS TO REMEMBER AS YOU DO THIS:
        • FLASHBACKS to this point and their SIGNIFICANCE?
        • WHERE do you think they are in the U.S., making their way South? specific references/places in the narrative that give away from geographic location?
        • WATER? where is it, and if present, what could it represent?
        • **HOW MANY BULLETS ARE IN THE GUN?** (Note this changes from flashback to present-day, and we're gonna explore WHY soon--see if you can figure it out! :) )
        • COLORS? anything besides the ashen grayness of the landscape (*NOTE THOSE *OTHER* FEW COLORS b/c it is/they are significant!)
        • remember/locate FIRE references--positive or negative connotation?
        • "...THE ROAD..." mentioned over and over at the breaks of each segment of the narrative, and WHAT it represents; WHY?
        • **the part with the FLASHBACK to a DOG--pay attention! *Was also mentioned before through pp. 69; why is this significant? (**REMEMBER TALKING ABOUT "THE 21st CENTURY GOOD GUY" and CHOICES that must be made to protect the child that is his "warrant" (5).)
        • MAJOR THEMATIC TIE-IN: ***CARRYING THE FIRE*** What does this mean?
        • "THE GOOD GUYS" vs. **"THE BAD GUYS"--look for these references; what ARE the differences in the two? (**pp 90-92 IS HUGE for this in descriptive detail of 'the bad guys'
