Using the The Things They Carried (TTTC) AP rhetorical analysis essay prompt and sample student response from class today (AP Practice Exam section), complete the following:

--After reading both above as we did in class today, use the "Scoring Rubric" on the back page to decide on a 1-9 SCORE you think is appropriate for this student response **BE READY TO DEFEND YOUR SCORE POSITION USING THE ESSAY RESPONSE, ITS MERITS, WHAT IT LACKS, UPPER vs. LOWER-LEVEL SCORE, etc. 

--THEN decide on a score, complete ALL of the "You Rate It!"sheet, (pg. 3) THOROUGHLY ANSWERING ALL FOUR (4) QUESTIONS

**AND REMEMBER: 
This student wrote this response in 40-minutes;

COMPOSE YOUR OWN FULL, DRAFTED RHETORICAL ANALYSIS RESPONSE TO THE SAME TTTC PROMPT/QUESTION

**FIRST: Consider EXACTLY WHAT THE PROMPT IS ASKING YOU TO SHOW, and look for ways O'Brien addresses this within his text

--look for language elements/devices (tone, allusion, repetition, syntax, diction, imagery, understatement, circumlocution, logical fallacies) O'Brien incorporates into the TEXT EXCERPT you have been given, and explain HOW those elements rhetorically appeal (ethos, pathos, logos--TRY TO STICK TO ONE) to an audience 

**DUE WED. 2/28YOU WILL HAVE YOUR COMPLETED 'DRAFT' RESPONSE ESSAY FOR THIS QUESTION/PROMPT AND YOU WILL BE GIVEN 40 MINUTES IN CLASS TO REWRITE YOUR ESSAY AND TURN THIS IAS A 'FINAL' DRAFTYOUR SCORE ON THIS ASSIGNMENT WILL BE BASED ON THE AP EXAM ESSAY 1-9 SCORING SCALE.
