**ATTENTION 3rd HONORS AMLIT: IMPORTANT HW RDG/ASSIGNMENT/JOURNAL DUE COMPLETED MON. 3/14**

3rd Honors American Lit./Comp.

HW DUE MON. 3/14:

1) OVER THE WEEKEND, MANAGE YOUR TIME and carefully read Bradbury's short story "The Pedestrian" given to you in class FRI. 3/11 and LINKED BELOW **and** on the Classroom post (**WRITING** section of binder)

2) As you read, HIGHLIGHT WITHIN THE TEXT the specific figurative details/LITERARY ELEMENTS I assigned TO EACH PERSON Friday; highlight/make note of/be ready to explain for FOR PARTICIPATION/DISCUSSION POINTS MONDAY for WHAT YOU FOUND:

  • LIGHT imagery
  • DARK imagery
  • COLD/TOUCH imagery
  • FIRE/LIGHT/WARM imagery
  • IN CLASS MONDAY/ALL: specific SYMBOLS
    • **EVERYONE LOOK FOR A THEME/THEMES at work within the story (**RE: technology, dystopias, knowledge vs. ignorance, following the status quo, FEAR of the unknown, etc.)

3) AND FINALLY, after completion of your reading/highlighting as instructed above, use the 1/2 sheet given to you in class Thursday and COMPLETE JOURNAL #6 informal/personal response writing assignment [question ALSO given below] (WRITING section):  


Bradbury himself stated, “You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them.”

Now that you've read both Fahrenheit 451 and “The Pedestrian,” for JOURNAL #6 in your BINDER WRITING SECTIONEVALUATE Bradbury's words ABOVE and what they mean to you.  Consider both texts and use the plot similarities and insight you’ve gained from our readings and many other discussions from the past nine weeks of class to help you respond to and evaluate his statement.
