Comments from Clinton's Counsel RE: WHAT TO DO when addressing the nation later that night after his Grand Jury testimony...

...And how that final, televised speech was received by those who heard it, even Starr, the LEAD COUNSEL of the SPECIAL INVESTIGATION team looking into Clinton's 'affairs' (pun totally intended there)

CORRECT TITLE:
JOURNAL #23: Clinton Speech(es) Effectiveness/Argumentative Response

Based on the two Clinton speeches we've read this week ("CLINTON II--August 17 Apologia" and "CLINTON I") COMPOSE AN ARGUMENTATIVE JOURNAL RESPONSE #23 in which you:

  • FIRST, identify the speech you feel was MOST EFFECTIVE and LOGICALLY-SOUND FOR THE INTENDED AUDIENCE AND PURPOSE AND EXPLAIN WHY “using blended text evidence/quotes/examples from that text” (Clinton __).

THEN....

  • USING the OTHER SPEECH VERSION you felt was LESS effective/more ILLOGICAL TO IDENTIFY/DISCUSS ONE (1) SPECIFIC LOGICAL FALLACY YOU FIND WITHIN THE SPEECH
  • also explain HOW this fallacy WEAKENS Clinton’s message/point “WITH BLENDED TEXT EVIDENCE from the speech to back up your assertion/claim(s)” (Clinton __). NOTE that it's -25pts off this J#23 assignment grade if you FAIL TO ADDRESS THIS PART OF THE JOURNAL!!!!

***************
USUAL MLA/STYLE/CONVENTIONS STUFF TO TAKE NOTE OF AS YOU COMPLETE THIS ASSIGNMENT:
  • ONE (1) EXTENDED PARAGRAPH FORMAT, PLEASE
  • SINGLE-SPACED is COMPLETELY FINE for this! (if you want to double-space, that's okay too!)
  • the use of FIRST-PERSON (singular or plural) is ACCEPTABLE HERE (not required, but you may!)
  • PLEASE ATTEND TO THE FOLLOWING for IN-TEXT CITATIONS FORMAT:
    • Speech #1/"Clinton I" (Clinton I). = his original short version
    • Speech #2/"Clinton II" (Clinton II). = “August 17 Apologia"/broadcast to nation
  • AT THE END OF THIS J#23, PLEASE INCLUDE a WORKS CITED FOR BOTH SPEECHES **that looks exactly like what you see at the bottom of the J#23 PAST STUDENT SAMPLE/MODEL posted below

*******
NEED A 'BOOST' TO GET YOU STARTED ON THIS ASSIGNMENT? READ BELOW CAREFULLY. This J#23 PAST-STUDENT SAMPLE RESPONSE incorporates everything needed to fulfill the assignment:
**everything you need is here: correct MLA 8th ed. format; proper title; BEGINS by discussing the effective speech; then transitions to the one LESS effective; uses "text evidence" from both properly cited (--); LOGICAL FALLACY INDENTIFIED in less-effective version/explained/"text evidence"; CORRECT WORKS CITED at bottom of journal response
  • ALSO, KIDS; NOTE THIS RESPONSE ABOVE is posted as a FORMATTING/CONVENTIONS/FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS GUIDE! You DO NOT have to write stylistically the same way as this response!
