**REMINDERS FOR ONLINE LEARNING TUES. 3/24; EVERYONE PLEASE READ!

1st/2nd AP LANG/ENG 1102

**ATTENTION AP LANG/ENG 1102 FOR TUES. 3/24:

1) First, please note that I'm still reading over your JOURNAL #22 responses RE: The Crucible, your political cartoon tie-in, Miller's article about why he wrote the play, and the NYTimes 'callout culture' article; so far, good stuff! Grades to be posted on those soon. In the meantime, here's two things to look at (one I sent in our group text, but it's worth seeing again):
Thanks, Hannah T., for finding this; so many ways to tie this all together to history, sociology, modern times, etc.
Shout out to Kody E. for finding this--such irony! An "On This Day in History" from May 1957 that is spot-on with
what we've been talking about the past few weeks. Great find!

2) Today, Tues. 3/23, I want to meet with as many of y'all as I can for our *30-45min. of required class time,* so I've planned, like last time we met, two separate GOOGLE HANGOUTS SESSIONS that you'll get an invite to shortly before each begins:

**1st block: 10:30am HANGOUTS
**2nd block 11:30am HANGOUTS

  • PLEASE NOTE you only need to attend ONE of these sessions
  • Also note that Hangouts can only accommodate 25 people per session, so that's why I'm grouping you all again by 1st block and 2nd block separately; **however, if you cannot make one session for YOUR BLOCK, please try for the other! Let me know via text/email, and I'll send you an invite!
    • **Can't make EITHER session today/this morning? Please text me/email me and we'll schedule another time/call/etc.; it's SUPER-IMPORTANT you try to be at these, though, when/if you can!
Need help remembering how to join a Hangouts session? Here's my video from last week w/instructions posted near the end of the video for joining; please view if needed:

3) **Please understand that it's important you try to be at one of these sessions because when we meet during our class Hangouts, I'll fill you all in on some important stuff RE:
  • some misc. course/school announcements RE: grades, class meetings, etc.
  • what I know RE: AP EXAMS and the latest from the College Board as you make decisions about the exam in May
  • where we're all going from here RE: the last few weeks of ENG 1102

4th Pre-AP American Lit./Comp.

3) FINALLY, BY WED. 3/25, everyone make sure you've read The Road through pp. 101
[*LAST LINE/BOTTOM OF THE PAGE: "Okay" (101).]

PRO-TIP AS REMINDED IN OUR HANGOUTS SESSION: MAKE POST-ITS AS YOU READ!
  • HERE ARE SOME HUGE, HELPFUL RDG./PLOT/THEME/SYMBOLIC POINTS TO REMEMBER AS YOU DO THIS:
    • FLASHBACKS to this point and their SIGNIFICANCE?
    • WHERE do you think they are in the U.S., making their way South? specific references/places in the narrative that give away from geographic location?
    • WATER? where is it, and if present, what could it represent?
    • **HOW MANY BULLETS ARE IN THE GUN?** (Note this changes from flashback to present-day, and we're gonna explore WHY soon--see if you can figure it out! :) )
    • remember/locate FIRE references--positive or negative connotation?
    • COLORS? anything besides the ashen grayness of the landscape (*NOTE THAT COLOR b/c it's significant!)
    • "...THE ROAD..." mentioned over and over at the breaks of each segment of the narrative, and WHAT it represents; WHY?
    • **the part with the FLASHBACK to a DOG--pay attention! *Was also mentioned before through pp. 69; why is this significant? (**REMEMBER TALKING ABOUT "THE 21st CENTURY GOOD GUY" and CHOICES that must be made to protect the child that is his "warrant" (5).)
    • MAJOR THEMATIC TIE-IN: ***CARRYING THE FIRE*** What does this mean?
    • "THE GOOD GUYS" vs. **"THE BAD GUYS"--look for these references; what ARE the differences in the two? (**pp 90-92 IS HUGE for this in descriptive detail of 'the bad guys')
