**IMPORTANT TASKS TO TODAY THURS. 2/29 and FRI. 3/1 and looking toward next week/MON. 3/4 MIDTERM DAY FOR AP/ENG1102:
1) FIRST, IN CLASS TODAY, THURS. 2/29, please take some time to THOUGHTFULLY SELECT A *U.S. RED SCARE or McCARTHYISM* POLITICAL CARTOON/PROPAGANDA POSTER (*1950s-60s ONLY, PLEASE) that you will be using THIS WEEKEND **for a SIGNIFICANT VISUAL/RHETORICAL ANALYSIS MINI-PROJECT/ASSIGNMENT GRADE
- Now that we've finished The Crucible, a BRIEF NOTE: we'll be exploring the themes in Miller's play through the context of modern/ historical implications of hysteria, panic, call-out culture, and, for this connection especially, THE RED SCARE panics that hit the US in both the early and mid 20th century
- Keep above and the play you are completing in mind, and VIEW THE FOLLOWING SHORT VIDEO (*also posted on the Classroom):

2) NEXT, MAKE SURE you show me/'run by' me your POLITICAL CARTOON/PROPAGANDA POSTER FOR my 'official OKAY" that you understand at the BASIC LEVEL what your piece of chosen visual rhetoric may be representing RE: the 1950s/60s U.S. Red Scare/McCarthyism
- Use your preferred search engine to CHOOSE A POLITICAL CARTOON/PROPAGANDA POSTER WITH A HISTORICAL CONTEXT, TIME FRAME, AND THEME RELATED TO THE FOLLOWING (*key words for your search, for example):
- Red Scare political cartoon (*NOT WWI/early Red Scare, please)
- McCarthyism political cartoon (post-WWII era/the 1950a-60s)
- **Add "US" or "United States" to your search key words if you want even further results
- Those of you NEED ME TO PRINT YOUR POLITICAL CARTOON, PLEASE SEND TO ME VIA EMAIL AS. SOON. AS. YOU'VE. BEEN APPROVED!!! PLEASE!!!

3) AND FINALLY...use the POLITICAL CARTOON/PROPAGANDA ANALYSIS SHEET given to you in class earlier this week (*and linked on the Classroom if you'd like to type the assignment) to complete your GRADED APLang/1102 MINI-PROJECT/assignment you received instructions on/a sample/model for in class Thurs. 2/29 and Fri. 3/1
- THE SUBMISSION/COMPLETION DUE DATE FOR THIS POLITICAL CARTOON/POSTER ANALYSIS SHEET (hand-written completion **or** typed/printed) + THE PRINT-OUT OF YOUR VISUAL IS AT THE BEGINNING OF CLASS, MIDTERM DAY, MON. 3/4
- SO, YOU HAVE PLENTY OF TIME NOW TO START ON THIS; NOOOOOOO FREAKING EXCUSES.

- TODAY Thurs. 2/29 and AT THE LATEST tomorrow FRI. 3/1 this search and pick out a RED SCARE/McCARTHYISM POLITICAL CARTOON/PROPAGANDA POSTER THAT YOU ARE COMFORTABLE UNDERSTANDING/ANALYZING/**TYING TO THE CRUCIBLE AS WELL**; IF YOU HAVE NOT YET BY THE END OF CLASS Thurs. 2/29, be ready to SHOW IT TO ME/have it to me to be printed NO LATER THAN FRI. 3/1; PLEASE EMAIL TO ME ASAP when approved so I can print it! OR A ZERO WILL BE ENTERED!
- And your POLITICAL CARTOON/POSTER ANALYSIS SHEET NEEDS TO BE COMPLETED/HARD COPY (hand-written on typed/printed) along w/a printed copy of your visual IS DUE BY THE BEGINNING OF CLASS MON. 3/4!!!
- AND ONE MORE REMINDER FOR NEXT WEEK'S IN-CLASS WRITTEN RESPONSE AP/1102 MIDTERM: make sure you've read and understand Miller's article/essay "Why I Wrote The Crucible," and be aware that this text PLUS your political cartoon make up a SIGNIFICANT PART of your MIDTERM assignment; in other words: THESE ASSIGNMENTS ARE SIGNIFICANT FOR YOUR MIDTERM GRADE.
