1) In the One Hundred Great Essays (OGE) anthology, THOROUGHLY READ Georgie Orwell's essay "Politics and the English Language" (pp. 517-530)

2) For this reading, BY CLASS MON. 2/13, COMPLETE JOURNAL #5

--ON PAPER, typed or written in 150-200 words, ANSWER **QUESTION #1 (THREE PARTS/BELOW) at the end of ORWELL's essay

**For your reference, here is QUESTION #1 (THREE PARTS) for JOURNAL #5:
--Why is Orwell so concerned over the state of the English language? 
--Why does he think it [English] has degenerated so? 
--What differences does he see his suggested reforms making?

3) MAKE SURE you complete this reading and JOURNAL BEFORE CLASS Mon. 2/19; you'll have plenty of time to get this done
