Jacob: On page 470, Marx and Engels point out the issues with 'capital' and the division of labor which they believe cause severe class distinctions. Use appropriate evidence from the text to discuss their argument against these two related concepts.

Mikala: Referencing the section titled "On Liberality and Stinginess," discuss and paraphrase Machiavelli's advice concerning a prince's relationship with his people and his wealth/generosity.  Use appropriate evidence from the text to support your discussion.

Kayla: Explain Freud's viewpoint in which he uses the example of the dream by the young girl at eight-and-a-half-years old.  What theory of Freud's does this dream seem to be confirming?  Use text evidence to support your discussion.

Megan: Locate one of Darwin's many rhetorical questions in the excerpted selection of his text.  Cite the question in your response and then, using the text, discuss how Darwin uses logical evidence to support and answer his own question.

Hannah: In Section IV, Marx and Engels reference several countries where the Communist party, at that time, worked to achieve their goals.  Name one of those countries and use text evidence to illustrate the steps this country took toward fulfilling the party goals.

Jeanelle: In the section titled "The Way Princes Should Keep Their Word," Machiavelli alludes to two animals a prince should mimic when instilling fear into his subjects.  Discuss the meaning of this allusion and use the text to show how Machiavelli points out the mistakes one can make by only mimicking one of these animals and not the other.

Devin: Define Freud's concept of dreams as 'wish fulfillment.' Then use his own observations with his patients (choose TWO to briefly discuss) as textual evidence that serve as validation to back up his point concerning these types of dreams.

Gloria: Based on Darwin's lengthy explanations, define the concept of 'natural selection' in terms of this text excerpt.  Use appropriate evidence from the text (i.e., one example he uses to illustrate this concept) as well as your own understanding to support your discussion.

James: Briefly explain the key differences (in terms of class distinctions) Marx and Engels point out between the "Bourgeois" and the "Proletarians" in society at that time.  Cite examples from the text to highlight the differences between the two groups.

Madison: According to Machiavelli, what should be the main goal of a ruler when asserting his/her political power?  How must one go about achieving this goalUse your own words as well as one cited example from the text to illustrate his point concerning a prince's power.

Bailey: Explain and discuss, with references to the text as well as your own words, Freud's definition of "dreams of convenience."  Cite one example/illustration from the text that shows this concept, and discuss how this example supports his viewpoint.

Lorene: On the bottom of page 171 into page 172, Darwin discusses man's/humanity's role in natural selection, suggesting that man indeed will never be able to replicate the powerful selection that nature puts forth in this process.  Discuss what Darwin means by this argument using appropriate text evidence to support your understanding.

T: On page 468-469, Marx and Engels argue against 'Free Trade' and market 'globalization,' suggesting they have added to the exploitation of the working class and traditional values.  Use text evidence here to summarize and explain two of the problems they believe arise from these two policies.

Marissa: In the section titled "On Cruelty and Clemency...," Machiavelli poses the question: "Is it better to be loved than feared, or vice versa?"  Explore and discuss his answer to this question based on the definitions of 'love' and 'fear' in relation to a prince, and use appropriate text evidence to back up your assertions.

Katie: On page 294, Freud relates the dream his 19 month-old daughter experienced after getting sick.  Briefly recount/summarize her dream using your own words and text evidence, then decide whether you believe this dream illustrates Freud's concept of "convenience" or "wish fulfillment."  Use the text to support your position.
