Bail o’ Dhia ort

Those who know me well are very aware of my fervent fascination with everything Irish. I ADORE that place. The rich Celtic culture and history, the friendly people, the aura--heck, I even have a tattoo of Celtic origin. I want to move there someday, or at least have a permanent vacation spot there. I even know the name of the little village where I want to stay. Waterville. It's on the Atlantic coast, County Kerry. Green rolling hills, sheep grazing to altitudes of 2,000 feet above sea level, and white pines sweeping all the way down to the most beautiful stretch of azure blue, unpopulated coastline one may ever see. Totally breathtaking.

Granted, I could never become an expatriate; Hemingway and his gang had guts, but they also lived in a time of deep distrust and hard feelings toward the U.S. Just read "The Sun Also Rises." My longing to relocate there permanently runs only as deep as the next presidential election. Jon and I have often joked that if Hillary Clinton wins the election, we're outta here. But, ARE we really joking? Time may only tell...

So, this summer--the endless summer--the first summer in FIVE years that I am not enrolled full-time in some sort of schooling--I plan on studying a bit of the Gaelic language. It's so interesting. So many dialects, just like English, and the accents and sounds seem to stick in your mouth like peanut butter on a piece of starchy white bread. Ha, what a simile... :) It feels good to do something "just because."

By the way, the title of this post translates, from Gaelic, to "May God's blessing be upon you."
